Remember I recently wrote the web-design as profession dies? Well it’s not all negative I think because let’s face it, there are enough cases when you just don’t need something huge and expensive. A good thing is that the technology always works to make itself easier and easier. I don’t mean all those “make a professional web-site for 5 minutes” online services, they are simply not good enough. The web-sites made that way look cheap, their code is written poorly and honestly speaking they are just useless for any web-project, especially a commercial one. But as I said the technology gets easier and it’s a good news for everyone who don’t want to pay some big buck for a web-site.

Let’s take my favorite CMS WordPress for instance – I think everyone can install one. Ok, if you’re not into this kind of stuff it can take a week to sort the things out a bit, but it’s really an easy thing. Someone with just a little experience in WordPress can install it, get a free design theme for it and basically have a good web-site for his needs. Sure a good web-site should have a unique design, but well it’s not so important, at least WordPress has the really great coding and it’s SEO-friendly which means you won’t have any trouble with Google indexation and so on. If you need an e-shop solution you always can install Magento, it’s also free-to-use and at the same time is an e-commerce standard. There are also a lot of graphic themes for it, some of them not so good and free and others can be really cool and cost about $30-100 which is far less than thousands of dollars you would pay for a new theme’s development. Here’s a good example – a Magento fashion theme, a nice and expensive looking theme for the fashion-shops you can get, install and use as it is. Magento opens for you the door to the whole world of Internet commerce, because that’s what it exists for. If you install and adjust it right in the end you’ll get a professionally looking e-shop with various cool features like “Special offer”, “Featured products” and other boxes.

And the sweetest candy is that you can really do it by yourself if you want to invest several days into it. There’s just a short list of things you must be able to do to make it:

• To have hosting and the access to your hosting account.
• To have a domain name.
• To know how to make a new database, what’s database name, username and password mean.
• To have FTP access to your account.
• To be able to find the answers for your questions in the Internet.
• That’s it :)

Again it’s a right way when you don’t want to spend money for your web-site or simple don’t need your design to be 100% unique. In other cases you should contact a professional web-designer, me for example :)
