Nobody said it’s easy to install the phpBB Gallery though. I did everything I found in the install.xml, but nothing worked, I saw the same error message time after time…

Many people do this mistake – they find the install.xml with all the instructions inside, open it with a text-editor or a html/css-editor and try to work with it, copying the code’s pieces and putting them into the forum’s files. That’s a great way… to spend a couple of hours, get a headache and see that error message in the end. That’s wrong, never do this!

What you should do is to open install.xml in your browser and let’s hope it will be Firefox. If your browser is not associated with the .xml-files you should just select it, then right-click and open with… whatever you use as the standard browser. Here we go, now we have the real installation manual where it’s simple to copy the code you need (by clicking “select all” above every code piece – take a look at the screenshot below) and where it’s damn hard to do something wrong.

If you use this – right – manual, without any hurry, slowly and seriously, you shouldn’t have any more trouble with phpBB Gallery. After you did all the changes described in the manual, start your-domain-name.com/forum/install/index.php and follow all the remaining installation steps.

Let’s take my favorite CMS WordPress for instance – I think everyone can install one. Ok, if you’re not into this kind of stuff it can take a week to sort the things out a bit, but it’s really an easy thing. Someone with just a little experience in WordPress can install it, get a free design theme for it and basically have a good web-site for his needs. Sure a good web-site should have a unique design, but well it’s not so important, at least WordPress has the really great coding and it’s SEO-friendly which means you won’t have any trouble with Google indexation and so on. If you need an e-shop solution you always can install Magento, it’s also free-to-use and at the same time is an e-commerce standard. There are also a lot of graphic themes for it, some of them not so good and free and others can be really cool and cost about $30-100 which is far less than thousands of dollars you would pay for a new theme’s development. Here’s a good example – a Magento fashion theme, a nice and expensive looking theme for the fashion-shops you can get, install and use as it is. Magento opens for you the door to the whole world of Internet commerce, because that’s what it exists for. If you install and adjust it right in the end you’ll get a professionally looking e-shop with various cool features like “Special offer”, “Featured products” and other boxes.

And the sweetest candy is that you can really do it by yourself if you want to invest several days into it. There’s just a short list of things you must be able to do to make it:

• To have hosting and the access to your hosting account.
• To have a domain name.
• To know how to make a new database, what’s database name, username and password mean.
• To have FTP access to your account.
• To be able to find the answers for your questions in the Internet.
• That’s it :)

Again it’s a right way when you don’t want to spend money for your web-site or simple don’t need your design to be 100% unique. In other cases you should contact a professional web-designer, me for example :)

Here I give you a list of the most popular modern kinds of Internet freelancing just to give you an impression of the whole situation…

• Programming. PHP, C++, Java, Ajax – everything’s good enough. The programming freelance market is a giant, so if you’re really good you’ll probably end up working for somebody. At least nobody of my friends programmers has any problems finding another project.
• Web-design. Also a good one, but you must be really great to get any work out there. Normally it’s pretty hard to find something, because you know in our world everybody can make pictures and design :) That’s why this area is so problematic – because everybody (I mean everybody) will tell you what to do. It’s not like you’re an artist and express yourself, it’s like you shut up and do what you was told to do. Of course web-design needs some creativity, but well not so much like somebody would tell you. The web-design market is flooded, you’ll be one of hundreds of thousands, so you should be really great to live in this. One more personal note – the web-design dies, it really does and I wouldn’t be surprised if in 10 years there would be no such thing like web-designer. There are too many “make a professional web-site automatically” services nowadays, too many cheap web-designers who literally work for food and at the same time the software becomes easier and easier, so… better be ready.
• Games. I know some guys who work in this area, it means they make the games for iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab and various other Android devices. It’s a fresh way, “Angry Birds” clearly showed that you can become a millionaire if you’re a lucky game developer. Sure it’s hard, you must know really a lot and work a lot, but if you think you can make it – just go ahead.
• Blogging. Yes, Internet is always hungry for the new content and there are a lot of people earning with their blog posts. Me for example :) If you love writing stuff and you have fun doing that, so why not? It takes a lot of time and effort to make a popular blog somebody would really read, but there’s nothing impossible. Just very few people make serious money out of it though.
• Advertising. Also a hard kind of freelance job: you should make an Internet project and make it so popular you can earn on the advertising (links, banners etc.). Not an easy task as I said, but some people can do it and there are a lot of examples of this. The most important part is to get a new good idea for a web-site… And I would say there are still a lot of such ideas out there, the Internet is still not perfect :)

All these jobs require a lot of time, work and devotion, it’s not easy, it’s damn hard, but if you succeed at this you could probably consider leaving your office job some day. Probably!

I don’t want to say it’s impossible to earn money in the Internet, but please don’t expect a free lunch. All those web-design and Forex gurus can fool people with fairy tales telling you anybody can just come and grab a bag of money. Not anybody. I know people who “play” with Forex, but they earn not so much and remember they learned a lot and lost a lot to get the experience they needed. I know also the people who earn a lot from their web-sites, but I tell you there’s A LOT of work behind that. Years of work, years of trying and losing. And the world will keep turning even if you lose, I mean you still must pay your taxes and rent, nobody would be interested in feeding you for your cool story about how hard you tried to make it :) I’m trying to work in this area right now and it’s hard, it takes a lot of time, sometimes I wake up at 10 AM and fall asleep at 4AM, just because I need to finish 5-8 articles a day or to finish some feature for my web-site. So you’d better think twice if you want to start working with this or it’s simply more fun for you working in an office.

You must have a certain state of mind to become a freelancer, the clear understanding of the fact that you can’t work for somebody, you’re not interested in any promotion within a corporate business and you want to make an own thing. You also must know what kind of thing you’re going to do, it’s very very very important to know it for sure. I’m going to write more about it soon, stay tuned.

Well much water has flowed under the bridge since then and when Anette came to be on Tarja’s place I was kind of glad, because from her interviews I really didn’t see she was so glad to be a part of this band and I really think every human being should be happy or at least try to. If she wasn’t happy in NIGHTWISH, so may be she could be happy solo? Well I guess so. The first album with Anette Olzon “Dark Passion Play” quickly became my favorite NIGHTWISH work ever. I attended 2 of their shows on that tour (Leipzig in 2008 and then Erfurt in 2009) and every show was fantastic! By the way I have another reason to be grateful – I discovered INDICA thanks to them, this beautiful all-female band supported Tuomas & Co in Erfurt). Well I have a lot of friends who hate Anette or just think she doesn’t belong, but honestly I don’t care, I think NIGHTWISH was never better. Now it’s the real band and not just an opera diva and some guys in the shadows behind her. I kind of like this, I like bands like this, with the musicians who have personalities and not just a bunch of “who cares who”-men. The new album “Imaginaerum” was… I should probably find some words to describe my feelings but I really can’t :) It’s an awesome job, NIGHTWISH on steroids. I don’t wanna lie and say I’ve heard it a thousand times, because I didn’t – it’s simply too complex to listen to this music on everyday basis. You should find a right mood for it. So “Dark Passion Play” still has way more plays in my Last.fm account but it doesn’t show any disrespect to “Imaginaerum” and I was really eager to hear those songs live. Yulia has never seen the band live, so it was her first experience (a very positive one!). Sorry for the terrible pictures, I had only a small pocket camera with me.

The sad part of any big concert is you should be there beforehand to find a place in the first three rows, at least 1 hour before they let the public in. 2 hours would be better. I love being near the stage, nothing can substitute that for me! We came just about an hour before the beginning and the guards already started working, checking the tickets and so on. It was a lot of people there, I think more than previous time in 2008.
 

 
We still found a spot in the second row on the right side. The long waiting made me tired and I went to the bar for a beer and suddenly discovered that all the plastic glasses for beer and water they had in the bar had a NIGHTWISH logo on them! It was an emblem with two knight helmets (pretty much like you can expect to find on any beer bottle), a NIGHTWISH logo and the words “since 1996″ :) That’s what I call a great idea! I didn’t return the glass and left that 2.50 EUR pawn. Just wanted to have one of those as a souvenir. At 19:30 the first band appeared on the stage – EKLIPSE.
 

 
EKLIPSE (official website: http://www.e-k-l-i-p-s-e.com) is a German band consisting of four young ladies (2 violins, 1 viola and 1 cello) who play a very romantic and sexy cover-versions of some popular tunes as classical string quartet. You wouldn’t expect something like that at a metal concert, would you? The band looked very interesting, very fetish, gothic-like and I bet they would look very cool at Wave Gotik Treffen or any other gothic festival out there. The first association can be APOCALYPTICA, but no, there’s nothing similar between these bands, except both of them do quite a show. Each in their own manner of course. No metal this time, because EKLIPSE covers different kind of things, like “In The End” by LINKIN PARK and “Paparazzi” by LADY GAGA. The band creates a very interesting atmosphere around, something in range from gothic to some kind of decadence, which was especially remarkable while they played the infamous “The Godfather Theme”. The stage was nicely decorated with a black background with the band’s logo and several street lamps… GAGA’s “Paparazzi” was announced in a very special way when one of the girls came up to the mic an said something like “Дорогие друзья, следующая композиция называется “Папарацци”…” (“Dear friends, the next one is called “Paparazzi”…”). That was so unexpected the whole audience started to whisper to each other “What language was that? Russian??” :)) Anyway though the band was kind of outlandish on the metal scene they got a lot of fully deserved applause! Here’s their new video for “Cry Me a River”:
 

 
The Finnish metal band BATTLE BEAST (official web-site: http://www.battlebeast.fi) was next. I would say as it was – it was amazing! You see I’m a big old-school metal fan and usually you won’t see any bands like this around who actually play old-school metal from the heart.
 

 
While BATTLE BEAST played their set I could close my eyes and easily imagine myself at a early JUDAS PRIEST gig! The singer Nitte surely has the best female metal voice I’ve heard for ages and really brings some associations with Rob Halford.
 

 
I think the band should work on their show and that could be the last component in their success scheme, because I felt some constraint from a couple of band members. All in all the gig was awesome, in the first place because it was 100% sincere metal like it was in 80′s and early 90′s. Nice, very nice!

After BATTLE BEAST left the stage was covered with a ragged curtain and we all had to wait for about half an hour.
 

 
Suddenly a soft blue light appeared and you could see Marco Hietala’s silhouette sitting in a rocking chair and singing the opening song “Taikatalvi”. He sang and you could see him right through the curtain and it felt like a cinema effect.
 

 
Marco finished the song, threw the chair away and disappeared while “Taikatalvi” went right into “Storytime” intro. The strong wind came from the stage and the curtain began to wave. The first verse and chorus was played and sang from behind the curtain, but then it fell opening the big stage with NIGHTWISH playing under a giant video screen with a merry-go-round rolling! That was a start! Very cinematographic, very emotional and I would say very original.
 

 
“Wish I Had an Angel” was next. I must say Anette improved her vocals very much since 2009! She was great, but now she’s even better, her voice became stronger, she looks good and she has more confidence. The only thing I noticed she didn’t move like she used to do. Last time I saw her she ran across the whole stage all the time, but now she prefers to run less and sing better. Well it’s a wise decision any way.
 

 
I was very glad NIGHTWISH didn’t start finding excuses like “You know, the new album is too difficult and isn’t suitable for playing live in concert” and the songs from “Imaginaerum” was a huge part of the show. After “Taikatalvi” and “Storytime” I heard such new tracks like “Ghost River”, “Slow, Love, Slow” (performed in a very nice 40′s cabaret style), “I Want My Tears Back”, “The Crow, the Owl and the Dove”, “Song of Myself” and finally “Last Ride of the Day”. 8 tracks! Not bad! The only really old song played was “Come Cover Me”.
 

 
I would say two of the most unusual surprises were the song “Nemo” played “unplugged” and the sixth band member for this tour – Troy Donockley, who played bagpipes an other folk instruments live on the most number of songs.
 

 
I also would like to thank the band for the special effects, because they were really huge! A lot of very original fire and smoke effects, a big screen with a special video for every song, two confetti storms and on the top of it some great fireworks in the end of the last song right under the roof! Honestly it looked even more convincing and tasteful than a KISS show :) Well at least it was in the same league, not an inch worse.
 

 
I left the venue with my hands hurting from clapping and my voice lost from cheering. That was an evening to remember and I really hope to catch NIGHTWISH once more on this tour, probably in 2013.

I should explain this problem… You see if you need a rating form (thumb up/thumb down or a stars ratung form or your individual “multi”-form) under each and every your article there’s no problem – GD Star Rating adds it automatically if you’ll work with the settings a little bit. But what if you need the rating form to stand on just a few of posts and not in a standard place like above or under the posts, but somewhere in the middle? Yep, Houston we have a problem.

I went to the little forum here, but it looked like almost everybody needed this feature and nobody really knew how to get it. The plug-in’s author just said we all could take a look in the info folder and see the whole list of plug-in’s functions… Honestly I’m not a programmer, I know very little about PHP and stuff and all those functions told me nothing. I went to the official GD Star Rating web-site and finally found the user’s guide in about an hour running here and there! The author was kind enough to explain everything in that user’s guide, the problem is that it’s very hard to find :) So I would explain it all here in this article to save your time.
